"Made for you" "Based on things you like" and so on are the exact opposite of how I want to consume media.
I think this is why I've never been even remotely interested in TikTok. I have no interest in sitting at the trough and eating up whatever slop comes down my assigned conveyor belt.
This is another big plus for physical media / "digital archiving" -- it's all curated by me, for me. Or by a friend for me, which is even better. No engagement-maximizing algorithms, just genuine interest.

This is also why I vastly prefer to engage with YouTube via #NewPipe instead of the actual web UI. That damn engagement algo works on me. I /will/ click 4 or 5 videos in one sitting that all started from something on my home page. With NewPipe, I only watch a video if I'm seeking it out on purpose.
