As non native I though it was very well written and all arguments seem reasonably taking away all misunderstanding.
I don’t care of any political view I don’t bother losing my time with unnecessary debates between turds and piece of shits…They all come out from an a$$ anyway !
However, there’s something else that bothers me coming from Proton. I don’t know… they don’t feel like a privacy conscious company anymore…
Look how bloated their website is, I lost my way more than once to find a specific option, how many ads they send paying customers through their throat, free VPN connection? Seems also very suspicious…
I don’t know my guts are telling me to stay away from them… Don’t get me wrong I used their free VPN tier for a while and their email service is top notch… But as the saying says: Follow your guts !

I’m not going to dictate on whether you should use their services in light of the recent post from the ceo. I’d just say, don’t be surprised when the data connections on the back end are made , or otherwise the data from the company goes into Cambridge analytica etc and you’re not informed.

Yeah that’s what I was saying, I have a strange feeling when approaching Proton… Everything in the same basket? Giving them all my info from password, email, notes, calendar… I don’t think this is a good/wise idea.

Except that would literally be illegal under Swiss law.

The thing is that response is bullshit. He intended it to be a political statement he trashed Democrats to gain favor with Republicans. He hit on a common right wing talking point ans when callee out he tried to pass it off as just fact. He couldn’t defend his statement when people came with a comparison of the facts.
Now he’s doing the worst thing, trying to play both sides. Oh you lean left on some issues and right on some issues. I’d be pretty fucking careful saying I lean right on some issues considering how extreme the American right is. In the current political landscape the middle ground is not possible. You cannot have consistent morals and be in the middle.

Dude also made his new username “andy88” in binary and used the phrase “triggered” in a reply.
Hes barely pretending.

Depends on who you ask: Magats will probably say that he is yellow, so a ch*nk. Poor Andy wants to be a token I guess.

This is the same kind of horseshit opinion that led to the logic of “we don’t negotiate with terrorists.”
There is nothing wrong with trying to find common ground with people you disagree with. Life is not a zero sum game, and I’m sick and tired of all this needless and divisive outrage. Ya’ll need to chill the fuck out and quit attacking everyone that is less than perfect from your perspective.

No, you don’t try to find a common ground with trump. That would make you an asshole.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from daddy32@lemmy.world
I don’t like to compare him to Hitler much, but it’s an apt example of why trying to find common ground is not automatically virtuous. Sometimes you don’t want to do that.

It actually took quite an effort not to mention hitler in my post…

I understand your comment and if it was any other right wing president I would agree and would not be taking such a harsh stance. Trump is different. Trump is not just ideologically opposed to me passing things I disagree with. Trump directly attacks and threatens the lives of the people I care about. He changes the culture in a way that makes me sick to my stomach. His views are something I cannot accept.

Cool, can you explain to us how your centrist approach would work in practice? Should Trump only remove some rights from trans people? Only deport 500,000 immigrants instead of one million?

I thought this comment (and the thread below it…and the lack of any reply to it despite the CEO being all over the thread elsewhere) was pretty telling.
It’s much less of a strong tell, but is slightly concerning that he’s picked up language like “triggered”. As comments there say, his excuse of not being in-tune with American politics could be real, but are also possibly just plausible deniability, because he may have picked up on that language by hanging out online with fascists.

Yes exactly! It also left a really sour taste when the CEO started aruging his side then when he realized he was getting cooked he was like “oh I dont want to discuss politics lets just drop this” N

So, what I’m reading from this fucker is:
I’m sorry; not for being a neofascist and a neonazi, but for getting caught at it. As such, I shall no longer post my opinions, so that people forget that I am, the same way I am emphasizing “your right to privacy” when we just handed over environmental activist to big government. Also, (14)88.

No, this is “I just said one good thing about Republicans because this particular thing actually aligns with our mission and everyone got batshit crazy over it, so, okay buds, no politics”

Yeah, but this is Lemmy, where anything that’s not extreme left is automatically neo-Nazism, so it’s kinda expected. 😑

It wasn’t one particular thing, he made sweeping judgements about entire political parties.
If he wants to call out Democrats for not doing enough, I’ll be right behind him, but to says such ludicrous things as conservatives are “looking out for the little guys” while tech oligarchs are praising Trump and sending him tens of millions of dollars and lining up to attend his inauguration ceremony shows wild levels of ignorance and incompetence that someone in such a position absolutely should not have.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from Ulrich@feddit.org
Wow, saying that Trump picked someone who would break up trusts was left, not right.
But here he said that he sometimes leans to the right is a problem.

Honestly, I’d be saying fuck this guy regardless of my political leaning, especially given the space he is in and the services he’s responsible for. As a very, very long time user of Proton services, this is so disappointing.

officially Proton must always be politically neutral
It is not and should not be. Proton should (and does) advocate for consumer privacy rights, even donating to orgs like GrapheneOS and EFF. These actions are active participation in American politics. You repeatedly lie that these are not political positions when they very clearly are.
What you CAN do is refrain from sweeping statements about entire political parties. Stick to the facts. Stick to individual people and specific issues.
The fact that this needs to be explained to a CEO is astonishing.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from Ulrich@feddit.org
He literally followed that statement with privacy being the sole exception. I don’t think you read the whole post.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com
I don’t feel like he needed to even go so far as to apologize. He didn’t say anything wrong in the first place.

Leadership that panders to demagogues can’t be trusted to handle security properly. I cancelled all my proton services and moved on.
