@lcamtuf Uhh, but then - calling the FD-73 a prosumer camera would be quite a stretch. This title clearly goes to their CyberShot range of the day, and boy, did they look a proper pro tool. FD-73 was more of an entry model, with FD-83 being an enthusiast camera, and FD-88 a dream, with its 8x optical zoom and 1280x960 resolution. 1/n

The one saving grace of FD-73 was that you weren't forced to carry a box full of floppies with you. Because with the FD-83 you could write just 10 1024x768 pics per floppy, so you wanted to have at least 10 more empty ones with you on any longer walk. But then - the results were much, much better than with the entry model, and low-light performance wasn't a total bummer either. 2/n

The FD-83 was actually quite capable as a travel / street photography camera, back in the times, when most of the monitors matched its resolution, TVs were still mostly PAL, and we were slowly moving from prints to on-screen viewing. And what's much more important, the technology had room to grow, unlike the analog photography which, by then, was already at its apex, and for a long time.
As a reference, here's a sample of the photos I took with Mavica back in 2002.

@lcamtuf This is a new one for me, cool! Break it to me gently, did anyone ever make a 5.5 floppy version?! :B

@lcamtuf Haha, this was my first digital camera! It was terrible, and it seemed ridiculous even at the time!
And yet... I still managed to take some pretty nice photos with it, as long as you don't look too closely: https://gallery.brainonfire.net/v2/list?tt=Meta=Sony%20Mavica One of them was featured on a Wikipedia article for years, and ended up getting published in a book after the authors asked me permission to use it.
The best camera is the one you have, after all...

@lcamtuf (Obviously I would only use it to horrify and confuse people these days... I have a reasonable camera now.)
