The cold winter weather may have stifled my #POTA #parksontheair activations but it hasn't kept me away from all the other #AmateurRadio #Hamradio #qrp CW #MorseCode activities like the @northqrp #NAQCC #QRPsprint tonight with my #YouKits #hb1b #miniputikeegkey

@N4JAW I never understood why they put the white-on-blue displays on portable radios... they are not visible in the Sun. The black-on-green ones are quite visible, even without a backlight.

@profdc9 Correct. That's the only flaw I find with this transceiver. It's really terrible on sunny POTA activations when hunting. I always have to shade the screen to see the display.

@N4JAW You could probably swap in a standard LCD1602 green-on-black fairly easily I think.

@profdc9 Probably could without any major issues. However, the number of times I use it in my rotation of other small CW transceiver it is not worth the work to replace it.

@N4JAW Just a note, I created the RFBitBanger QRP radio if you're interested.
https://www.github.com/profdc9/RFBitBanger
It is designed as a radio that can be constructed from (relatively) common parts for easy maintenance.

@profdc9 Thanks. I'll take a look see. Just might add it to the other repairs, kit building and other ham radio projects during this La Nina cold winter 🥶
