@fletch "power" I don't know. It is utterly difficult to make the community accept removing code is needed. It is much easier to contribute new code in comparison.

@fletch ~ 90% of the respondants of our user survey use GeoTIFF as their primary raster formats. Given that we have 172 raster drivers, just deleting half of them would be unnoticed by 95% of users. So that would be a very conservative act. One could blame me for that conservatism actually

@EvenRouault short messages failing to convey intended meanings. I use GDAL every day, mostly GeoTIFF so I am the user you mention. Still if you deleted 50% I would have zero reason to complain. I would remain grateful for the tools made available to me for free.

@EvenRouault @fletch Alternate view: what if the 95% represent a missed opportunity in documentation/education/usability? Could many of those users be using a better suited format for their data if they only knew about them?

@WeatherGod @EvenRouault for sharing interoperability is the biggest issue. Better formats are better because they can be opened by most software. Shapefile is not the best but try working with geo package in ESRI or CAD
