@CleoQc looking like diabetes. But keto acidosis right now too so at least 3 grands worth of stabilizing (at least 24 hours on iv fluids and insulin punp) then we can deal with the diabetes via injections

@CleoQc not looking good at all as his potassium levels are too low to give insulin right now. so have to go back in 6 hours to see if iv fluids and iv potassium has raised his potassium enough to give insulin

@ukscone
Yikes! And that's going to be quite expensive too!

@CleoQc well they originally wanted 7 to 10 grand to keep him a week, even 2 days they want 4500 with no guarantees that he'd be ok. we've said lets give him 12 hours and see how he's doing after rehydration and potassium. if he's doing ok, good or improving and insulin will help we'll do that if he's doing bad or no change then we'll make the decision. probably bring him home and make him comfortable for his last 2 or 3 days unless he'll be in pain but they said he wouldn't be

@ukscone
How much does insulin cost for a cat anyway? You're not in Canada....

@CleoQc between 80 to 130 per month depending on how much he would need from chewy
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from ukscone@fosstodon.org
@CleoQc strips would be another 50/month syringes about 20/3 months.

@CleoQc but much cheaper than it used to be for tigger over 16 years ago the insulin alone was about $300/month

@CleoQc just got back with him. still touch and go but he has a fighting chance. they got him to eat and drink a bit, rehydrated him and got his potassium a bit higher. enough they gave him a shot of insulin before we collected him. we have a bag full of meds and diabetic wet food and treats to keep us going for a few days until prescriptions can be filled and has a follow up to see how he's doing in 3 to 4 days. got to pick up pee test strips tomorrow

@CleoQc still in the balance for a week or so but he was much happier this morning. no real complaints taking his potassium gel and insulin and he had a bit to eat and a bit of a drink. not much but something which is better than earlier this week
