So here’s the background: I’ve been a Southwest fanboy for 20+ years and was a-list for a decade.

But without status, the appeal is lost, and I’m a free agent. I (the person tooting, not airline reporter) was a vocal United skeptic in Twitter days.

Anyway, I get UA silver via Marriott Titanium Lifetime status. So I might as well use it. Or that’s the idea. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Let’s see!

I’ve long heard the UA app is slick. But very impressed. I scored an Economy Plus empty row, but a nonrev was assigned the seat next to me 15 mins before boarding. Used app to move back three rows (still e+) to again have an empty companion. Seamless update. Everything updated like it was supposed to.

First flight done. Comfy! The extra legroom really helped. Zero complaints. I’ve really missed the 175.

It can’t be overstated how much I love being able to keep an eagle eye on the standby passenger list, watching them clear and being able to be super vigilant about keeping my middle seat empty. A+. Thank you, #United! 🥰
