That attitude of being snitty about Bluesky is 95% of the reason why people don't stay on Mastodon. Get the fuck over yourselves.

Toot

Yes, I am aware that the Fediverse has a superior product in many ways, and is likely to outlive Bluesky, as well as other platforms. I do nudge people over here from BS when I can.

But the problem with Mastodon isn't the tech. It's the purist condescension, the constant sense of bitterness and sour grapes. This is a social network, supposedly. Ditch the antisocial behavior if you want people to feel welcome.

@sjaakkeuvelaar This is one area where Mastodon and Bluesky run as equals.

Comparison is quite hard for me: I did not join BS and have no plans to do so…

@alexwild

My experience is opposite - Bluesky has frequent nagging about alt text, panicked threat to leave the platform when someone gender critical signs up, and earlier today a threat to unfollow anyone who doesn't block someone who is not even active any more...

And I was able to choose a host who's position as pretty close to my own on things like AI.

@alexwild

(badly phased - choosing a host I meant choosing a Mastodon instance)

@Nick_Stevens_graphics Yeah, that aspect has gotten worse as the user base expanded.

Perhaps the most easily offended left twitter first?

I think a lot of the attitude that you're seeing is a lot of giddiness and pent up feelings of powerlessness. Our community, myself included, are having a period of youthful immaturity that I'm hopeful will fade as this federation keeps growing. I think our next phase is to focus on patience.
