hmmm… so what if I want a personal blog, but organized more like notes? A place where I can dump my current understanding of a thing, and it clearly labels the date I last modified it, but I keep updating it over the years?
Most 11ty / whatever blogs, the URLs are the date it was first posted, right? I don’t want that. I want /foo to be my current understanding of foo, updated whenever I last updated it? And go to git history to see the edits over decades?

But still with a nice landing page listing all my notes on various subjects? And the original and last modified date?
Here’s Jay’s understanding of foo, 2017-2025?

Turns out eleventy-base-blog (@eleventy) does exactly what I was looking for, right out of the box.
Say hello to my new "notes" blog: https://notes.jays.net
As if I needed another website.
As if y'all wanted more Jay. 😉

@deafferret in 11ty it’s very easy to set the date to whatever you want. I do this a lot when I’m recounting past projects.

@tbaxter can you link me to a post and the VC of that post so I can see how it works?

@deafferret It's stupid simple. "date' in the front matter would default to today, but if you set it to some other day, it respect that, as seen here: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/tBaxter/another-rodeo/refs/heads/main/src/pages/bikes/peugeot-ph19-mixte.md

@deafferret @jbranchaud and @simon run TIL blogs, which sounds similar to what you’re looking for https://github.com/simonw/til

@mattdsteele oooo very cool! @simon's Atom feed is... the 15 most recently updated? Can I page that feed to get to the other ~530?

@deafferret @mattdsteele no but if you want all 530 you can access them via JSON API through https://til.simonwillison.net/tils/til
