Toot

So a little odd jaws quirk that I’ve noticed. Maybe some of you guys have this too. Even though I’m running on a desktop keyboard, I am working in laptop layout because of the whole I’m left-handed thing, and also because I just got so used to that mode after using laptops for over 10 years, and I really don’t wanna have to relearn everything. The odd part comes in when you try to access the jaws menu. This may not apply if you’re using the jaws window. I’m running from the system tray. Pressing caps lock J does nothing that is actually useful. Pressing insert J will bring up the menu every single time. Can we say a little bit on crack or something?

@evilcookies98 That's because capslock J goes to the previous word, I think. There's basically an entire set of substitute keyboard commands for the arrow keys. You can determine that for sure with keyboard help.

When adding a keystroke to JAWS, you can specify whether you want to use the insert key or the JAWS key. This doesn't matter when you're in desktop layout, but it does when you're not.

@simon gotcha. That is extremely weird and extremely annoying for left-handed people.

@evilcookies98 You can always just delete all those arrow key substitutes and then add JawsKey+j as the command to open the JAWS menu.

@simon how do I do that? I don’t need Aoki substitutes. I think I have enough row keys.

@evilcookies98 It's been a long time and I might be wrong now, but you want the Keyboard manager. Look for stuff like "SayNextWord, SayCurrentCharacter, etc. There will be key assignments for all of those. Keep the ones involving arrow keys. Delete the ones bound to JawsKey+letters.
