This was more or less a bucket list for me and at #openmonumentendag I was finally able to visit it. The #Schans of #Lauwershoek is a schans (literally translated: ramp or skijump) that is part of the #Enceinte of #Antwerp, a ring of fortifications around the city.
Situated about 10km from the river #Scheldt, the Schans of Lauwershoek and #Landmolen were built as an extra protection for the forts of Steendorp and Haasdonk. The ramp pointed towards the enemy in such a manner that the Belgian military could attack the enemy from the back when they passed it.

@Pentaxke, a friend of mine studied fortifications in Belgium during the seventies. These are awesome.

I had the opportunity to visit several of them. Interesting to say the least.
Of course, by the time we needed them they were severely outdated.

@Pentaxke, he specialized in cupolas - which suffered the same outdated fate.
