I would strongly question asserting anything meaningful from "17 billion smartphones," since we don't (probably "can't") know how many aren't destroyed, sitting in a landfill, or otherwise unused.

One could just as easily make a compelling argument that Nokia was king because of a superior number of shipped devices! 🤭
