I think it's totally fun that we now know what Eloquence version 1 from 1996, and every major version after it, sounds like.

@masonasons It's wild that we found most of it out in the span of a few months. To me it feels like the synth had 3 phases, at least that's how it feels like in my head where versions 1-3 sounded similar, then version 4 sounded closer to the modern Eloquence we know now but with a different accent and then versions 5 and 6 sounding nearly identical to me at least.

@pitermach Yeah. If I had been introduced to Eloquence at version 1.0, I honestly don't think I would've been super into it. It sounds super harsh and awkward to my ears.

@masonasons @pitermach sorry to just hijack this, but where do we have a sample of Eloquence 1.0? Last I knew, that was 16-bit and hard to run.

@masonasons @pitermach That sounds weirdly dectalk-esc.

@simon @pitermach Nah. I wouldn't say so. I'd say it sounds Eloq esc, just, wrong.

@masonasons @pitermach To me, it sounds like Eloquence when it was still growing up and trying to emulate its big brother Dectalk. There's something about the quality that does sound similar, but it's hard to put my finger on it.

@simon @pitermach Yeah. I'd agree with that, and that would make sense, it being Eloq 1.0 and all, and it being tagged as a beta.

@masonasons Yeah. I actually quite like the sound for version 3, I used it as my main for a while when the first addons for it came out, it kinda sounds warm to me. The one that really sounds off to me is 4.7 even though I know some people prefer it even to modern, but the accent to me just sounds... Wrong. I don't want to call it imperfect because it's probably based on a real dialect, but you know how most people myself included find the UK English eloquence just sounds wrong and not at all british? That's kinda how I feel about the sound of 4.7 American English.

@pitermach Yeah. I never really understood the charm of 4.7 myself. I'm kind of seeing a pattern here. It feels like whenever they majorly upgrade eloquence, it sounds weird for a major version or two, and then they fix it. E.G. 1.0 sounds odd, then by 3.0 it sounds nice. Then 4.x sounds odd and by 6 it sounds nice again. Haha.
