@loke Yeah, they banned renewing the PR from overseas. Probably because a lot of people tried fraud that way. And the PR has a residency requirement anyways, I guess their subidea is you need to be able to travel to Canada at all to live there for a long enough time.

Merely travelling is okay, but applications take over a month to process, maybe even multiple, so you can't really take a work leave to do it in a jiffy. Much easier if you could find work there to live for a while, but of course, that's where the economy ruined the assumptions of the system..

@snowyfox If you need to move back to Canada, is it easy to get a new PR?

@loke For the next two years I estimate*, the "past 5 years window" should have me being three years within Canada, and therefore applying for a new PR card shouldn't have any issues.. Aside from the change of address and questions about travel history, but I don't think anything threateningly difficult would come up

If I lost my permanent residency status, I think it would be impossible for me to get a new PR. They don't really hand those out like all, you need to have a work permit or study permit, or be a skilled worker with some huge history and funds to basically buy your way in. Only a work permit would be of reach for someone of my status and finances. So I'm considering it as, if I don't successfully renew in the next two years, then it's permanently gone from Canada

@loke Even if hypothetically they were more lax with giving me a PR, government trends in North America especially and Europe in general seem to be that they don't want to admit any new people anyways. So a new government could just practically close the PR system

Here is also impossible, it's just I have the nonsensical magic IC card that lets me entry into everything for some reason.
