Is it just me, or does the first part here completely contradict the last part?

"The Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association, a trade group, this week called for creating common standards, an effort to build public confidence by setting a baseline for safety. It also proposed eliminating safety rules that require steering wheels and pedals in self-driving cars."

@Wileymiller

@Wileymiller

I think they are saying that they can't convince people that self driving cars are safe as long as their competitors still have a steering wheel.

"If we all remove it at the same time, then people will think it must be safe".

@Wileymiller

They're calling for baseline safety standards on a product that is currently being used on public roads, and if we're counting Musk's abomination, it's been for YEARS.

WTAF

And want no human controls as well.

They can go to hell.
