GIMP 3.0 will now support loading DDS images with BC7 compression! Thanks to Jacob Boerema for his help and the image testing framework he developed to check for regressions.
(I didn't realize it until we closed the issue, but @prokoudine was the one who originally requested this support a few years ago!)

@synthfi Most modern games use this type of DDS compression.
We have a large number of reports from modders who couldn't open DDS files (we've had the DDS plug-in for a long time, but it only supported up to BC5 compression, which limited its usefulness to older games). So this should make them a lot happier. :)
