I'm trying to set up a Signal group for my street. I don't want private local emergency comms going over public SMS/MMS but it can be surprisingly hard to convince others that's a good idea. Doing my best.

@dlakelan I would think the issue might be your neighbours might not want to share PII that cannot be easily changed like a phone number. Perhaps changing the app to Session or SimpleX where almost no PII is not able to be re-generated might help?

No, the issue is people want to use SMS because they don't know anything else and don't know why they shouldn't just trust the phone system.

@dlakelan I see (not sure what to suggest as the crypto over SMS apps like Silence i would not personally rely on).
