Yesterday we gave a masterclass "How the proprietary ecosystem is killing itself". Our video of this masterclass about open source #foss and our #education is now live:

@os_sci Sounds interesting. Is the video available to watch through any non-proprietary platform or protocol, please?

@julian not yet. We will upload it on our Peertube account too. In all honesty we are not in the full Peertube mode because the platform performs bad in Asia. And although we use open source for everything we cannot run a server for everything we use.

@os_sci @julian IMHO your efforts are worthless if you can't eat your own dogfood. Posting YouTube links discredits all your other posts.
That said, what stops you from running a PeerTube server, or asking other organisations like the @fsfe for an account on their instance?

@nik @julian @fsfe That's easy and in al honesty bs. We run own Nextcloud, Mattermost, Gibbon, OpenEDX , Odoo Community, Zimra and lots more servers. We cannot save the world on our own. If there is no decent peertube server in Asia, thats it. How many foss servers are you running?

@os_sci @julian @fsfe
Quite a lot. I have been managing to run every organisation I am part of on pure FOSS. That includes three FOSS conferences on national and continent level as well as the @Teckids youth organisation which provides Mastodon, PeerTube, Nextcloud, Matrix, XMPP, BigBlueButton, Discourse, GitLab, Penpot,β¦ for itself and the public, and partners with others for some other services like CryptPad.
I know first-hand that "it can't be done" is an outright face-saver.

As I said, there are many organisations which would certainly host you. The server having to be "in Asia" is a stupid requirement, especially given how much YouTube is "in Asia".

@nik @julian @fsfe No it's not. We tried using Peertube, but the latency from Asia was so high that the video's were unwatchable.
