[#]TalesFromTheHomeOffice - I feel as if I've been yoinked out of the driver's seat of a very fast sports car and stuffed into the rear-facing jump seat of a 1982 station wagon trundling down a single-lane dirt road.

Well, if this team won't let me drive on the highway, hopefully I can find a position with another team that'll let me do more interesting work. I talked to some folks today about that. Fingers crossed.

@emery ugh. I got knocked around into some crappy roles in corporate reshuffles in past jobs. It was hard, especially because I had so little choice in the matter.

@bomkatt Bleh :( I think the worst part is that they will tell you, with as much sincerity as they can muster, that they want to provide you with "meaningful and fulfilling work," they ask about your career goals and where you want to be in 5 years, they tell you they're going to help you get there...

...and then they put you in what's basically an admin role, filling out forms and moving files to and from sharepoint sites.

@emery ouch. And I can relate to that. I officially left the day my manager told me not to bring her new ideas, just to execute what I was told to do.

I stayed there till I landed a new gig and wore a lot of snarky sock for subtle rebellion.

@bomkatt I do feel a little bad for my new manager - she'd built up a comfy cozy little team for herself, and then had a half-dozen new people airdropped in who are all used to doing WAY more than what she's been told her team is allowed to do and are angry about it.

This would be great if it were a sitcom.

@emery that would not be a fun position to be in either, especially if they didn’t discuss it much with her in advance

@bomkatt At this point I'm half-seriously considering writing a lighthearted book about regular-people office workers affected by the merger of two large and bureaucratic corporations. Each chapter will be told from a different person's perspective. The corporations are the "bad guys," of course. And there has to be a cross-company love story arc, right?

@emery absolutely a set up for enemies-to-lovers arcs.

Toot

@bomkatt As a running joke, the mid-level managers from each company use the same words to describe different things, and different words to describe the same things - so after meetings, half the people walk away thinking they understood everything, and the other half of the people walk away really unsure about it all.
