Today I learned that Japan had the less convenient kind of roundabout (the one where vehicles who want to enter the roundabout have priority) before 1945. Instead of doing the sensible thing and changing them to the more convenient kind by just changing the priority rule, the American, roundabout hating occupation forces decided to abolish them entirely, eventually leading to the traffic lights controlled intersection festa we have to live with today 🤬
