Stepping back and looking at this whole situation from a great distance, it’s impossible not to see that Matt could have responsibly discussed the needs of WP, the .org costs, and all sorts of things the foundation has become entangled in doing and prevented from doing.
Instead, he panicked.

The fact that the very first thing we get from Matt in a very public scene at WCUS is the nuclear approach just undermines his entire position. There’s probably ways he could still (even now) make things better and right the situation but he’s damaged more than his own reputation through all of this.
I really really really wish that so many things would have been done better and differently by Matt.

He’s either being petty about the situation and taking another dig at WPE’s contributions OR he’s legitimately in deep water and trying to grab anything that can float. It pains me to see Matt in that situation even if it was of his own making. He gambled heavily with his nuclear approach and 21 years of blood, sweat, and tears was his hubris. He underestimated the damage he was inflicting on the community and the businesses that rely on WP.

We have all paid and will continue to pay for his choices. I just hope he finds his way back to balancing his opinions and choices with feedback taken in good faith from the community.
