As a wimpy ‘hate walking on anything remotely slippy’ type of person I can heartily recommend the ice grips/studs that you stretch over your shoes. They’ve had a thorough testing on our local roads recently. Our little road has been gritted but there is still thick ice where water run-off from the fields has frozen. #IcyRoads #IceGrips

@CloudsGoBy I absolutely agree - and as a glaciologist, I walk on a lot more ice than most people! The ones that I particularly like are these ones made by RUD in Germany: https://www.albatowing.co.uk/products/shoe-chains/shoe-chains/rud-bergsteiger-shoe-chains-size-2--rsc02=5173

They're just a chain and have no sharp points or studs, which means that they work well on all surfaces and don't scratch floors or damage cables or hozes. But they really grip. Highly recommended.

@drmikepj @CloudsGoBy

Useful tip Mike, thanks. I’ve tried studs, which were great on a consistent surface, but damaging on some if ice was intermittent.
