I’d like to send a special “fuck you buddy” to all the boomers that told me “oh you’ll get more conservative as you get older, once you get some money”

I don’t know what world those people live in, but every day since probably 1989 everything I have seen in the world has only convinced me more and more that capitalism is a disease that is destroying lives and the planet.

@RadicalEdward @cobweb there's something to be said for caring a lot more about security and tradition when you have kids and a mortgage vs when you're young and can get away with crazy stuff with no consequences, but yeah it doesn't need to make you cold hearted and selfish. Scarcity mindset

@wilbr @RadicalEdward @cobweb Not sure what sort of security and tradition the right is offering other than a nostalgic take at Nazi Germany upgraded with more crazy, but OK.

The right's claim to security and tradition (or respect, OMIPU) is on par with its claim to fiscal responsibility, freedom, free-market capitalism, morality, and family values.

Why do people still buy any of it? Seriously, you just repeated it...why you still accept that framing when it's so clearly false as all hell?

@crazyeddie @RadicalEdward @cobweb I don't ascribe to it, but basically it's a scarcity, fear, rat race, hierarchy mentality vs abundance, love, cooperation, equality mentality. If your experience of the world is that it's cold and harsh and unforgiving and you need to fight and claw to get a scrap (like, say, your parents raised you this way or you suffered trauma) then it'll be real hard to convince you otherwise: it might be true for others but not for you

@crazyeddie @RadicalEdward @cobweb coming from powerful fascists it's a lie of course, a con, I'm just answering one way of how people could believe in it. (Hippie paradises and revolutions can also be cons, but you bet I'm much more primed to want to believe in them! Greedy people will say anything to gain power.)
