@ember@blahaj.zone if your windows are usually fullscreen / halfscreen and you like fiddling with configs, yes. if you like integrated desktop environments, no. also i recommend using sway (wayland) if you can; it's slightly nicer and can be used with waybar.

@tastytea@very.tastytea.de i'm used to gnome, always used that and am comfy with it. this would be for my laptop, i use that for:

i pretty much only use stuff in fullscreen on that anyway.

i would like to minimize mouse usage and maximize app real estate on that laptop, however i am scared that there will be situations where i would need to find something and i wouldn't know where without having to pull up some cryptic config, for example configuring a second monitor, or sending audio to bluetooth headphones. and a quick search on how to do these things pretty much confirmed these fears...

@ember@blahaj.zone second monitor in i3 can be a bit fiddly from what i remember (note: might be outdated information, haven't used it in years), but it's plug and play in sway. in sway you can even assign workspaces to multiple screens, the first available is picked. without config newly created workspaces will be placed evenly on the available screens IIRC.

bluetooth stuff you can do with blueman-applet, that's a tray icon for blueman. i use it all the time, it works good.

what i miss most is the ability to control the volume of an application through some applet, always have to launch pavucontrol.

@ember@blahaj.zone if you decide do go for sway, you might find my sway config and my waybar config useful. my i3 config is horribly outdated but still might contain some useful bits. also feel free to ask for help. :blobcat_comfy:

@tastytea @ember disclaimer: second monitor is plug and play in sway except for the "repositioning" where the monitor should "be", that is configured through the config files if you need to. if you wanna set custom resolution or more advanced refresh rate stuff, that too, but you'll usually be fine with the one it autoselects
