ffs, vlc having "AI generated" subtitles isn't the end of the world. youtube has had that for at least a decade now. they should've just called it automatic subtitles, imo. people will see "AI" and get mad like a bull seeing red

to be fair, 99% of AI features in apps are just crappy ChatGPT wrappers. but this isn't. it won't get the subtutles perfectly correct, but we've learned not to fully trust automatic subtitles thanks to youtube autogenerated captions, and the value this could have for translating shows and movies is not something to scoff at
