I try to have a policy of not boosting a toot unless any media has alt text. I'll make some small exceptions depending on perceived importance of the topic and particular toot content. Sometimes I might just forget to check.

I've also been experimenting with replying to alt-text-less toots I otherwise like with my suggestion of alt text. I'm now aware of the Alt4You hashtag to use in such replies. I've had a pleasing amount of favorites and boosts on such replies :) .

I do see some truly awful AltText as well. It's not enough to just check there is AltText, you need to read it too. A complicated image, with text or not, that just has "Image of some people" isn't helping anything, for instance. I saw one the other day that was possible OCR'd and replaced a chunk of text in the middle with "...".

If you use any automated tools to generate AltText, proof read it !
