I'm following too many people, how do you go about spring cleaning your follows (apart from unfollowing inactive accounts)?

@Jbasoo Mastodon now has exclusive lists: when the option “Hide these posts from home” is set, the main timeline won't contain the posts from people in that list. I have an “Overflow” list that I sometimes add someone if I feel that I don't want to unfollow them, but their content is too spammy, or just not something I want to usually see.
Then, it is possible to sometimes go to that list and still read some stuff from it.

@Jbasoo Also, a thing that often helps: disabling boosts from someone who uses them too much. Like, if there are 20 boosts per 1 own post, it might get exhausting (though, @phanpy helps with grouping all the boosts).

@Jbasoo (but otherwise I rarely unfollow; my follow numbers tend to be smaller in general, and my main issue is often the timeline and my ability to read it, so it might not be the same issue that you have)

@kizu Thanks for the tips, I might look into the overflow list for shrinking my timeline. I'm not really getting through the days toots lately so that might help.
I've already (somewhat ruthlessly) unfollowed dormant accounts that haven't been active recently. I think I've just been a bit too enthusiastic with following so I want to bring the number down and be more selective in the future.

@Jbasoo Thinking about it: maybe it might also make sense to put the dormant accounts into a separate list, as this will allow to spot those who “return” :D
Also, if you did not yet check it out: @phanpy has a very useful “catch-up” feature, so even if you're not using phanpy itself, it might be worth it occasionally use it just for that feature.
