As a regular Linux user seeing any nix installer wanting to create /nix directory just throws up red flags.

OK we get it the custom NixOS breaks lots of standards wanting to be cool. Have fun with that.

Let the rest of us change the base install location instead of hard-coding the path everywhere #nix #lix

@ragectl you can change the store path, but those consequences can be painful (building everything from scratch). There is reason to the madness beyond being different for its own sake

@ivan it's like saying Nix is more special than using something like Cargo to install occasional tools to use. It's really not, outside of NixOS

@ragectl @ivan Nix is special in the sense it preserves theoretical properties, if this is a far too deal breaker, there are plenty of weaker alternatives in terms of properties which might be completely fine.
