@snarfed.org Gorgeous! When you're back - can anything be done to improve discoverability on Fedi of bridged Bluesky accounts? eg @ptjnorth.bsky.social said that he's #NowBridged so I searched the name ptjnorth & got a blank, then found him by trying this full address. Newly bridged in this case but just discovered that someone I've been asking had opted in 1-2 months ago but still not showing up in search. If discovered quickly it would encourage more people to bridge!

Hi! Sadly this isn't specific to the bridge, it's how the fediverse works in general: there's no global search, and fediverse culture actively resists building one. As an example, https://mastodon.art/@snarfed is one of my test accounts, but searching for "snarfed" here on h.net doesn't find it.

@snarfed.org Thanks for explaining... name search often works for me, so I wasn't aware of these limitations. Is there / could there be an opt-in for max discoverability on name search, as there is for searchability of post-contents? @FediTips ?

@snarfed.org Could you add a notification to those who sent a bridging request to a Bluesky user through Bridgy?
Meanwhile I'm encouraging use of the hashtag NowBridged, to alert to new presence...
Thanks again for providing The Bridge!

You would only find an account in a search if there is some connection between that account and your server. Here is a list of what servers notice:

There is more info in the guide about why it works like this.
"can anything be done to improve discoverability on Fedi of bridged Bluesky accounts?"
A lot of servers block Bluesky bridges due to the dubious nature of the corporation that owns Bluesky (https://social.growyourown.services/@FediTips/113364985280012085).

@FediTips Thanks for the helpful guide on what our servers notice. I share your reservations about the long-term outlook for Bluesky. However many valuable communities have regrouped there & I'd still like to read their posts if I can do it from Fedi. Also it's good if people there remain aware of functioning alternatives, ahead of expected future enshittification?
@snarfed.org would it work to set up a Fedi account which reports daily on the newly bridged?

@ClaireFromClare @snarfed.org @ptjnorth.bsky.social I'm trying to figure out the opposite...I can see @jonny-nut.bsky.social from https://mastodon.social, but can't for the life of me do it the other way around...🤔
