I appreciate the simplicity of this illustration from @pluralistic of things falling off the "hype cycle" and ending up on the trash heap, because one time I spent a half an hour trying to illustrate the same basic idea but didn't come up with anything comprehensible. I got too hung up on the details of the different trajectories they could take along the way.
