Just for fun, I thought I would write a #gemtext reader in #PHP. I'm pretty happy with it. Once I have tested it a bit, I'll post it for you all to play with.

My parser probably works. I can't entirely tell because reading files over gemini:// is proving tricky. I may have to use curl and I really don't like curl.

I think I shall have to give up. It looks like I can do everything other than fetch a gem from a server with the tools PHP offers. It is like all the technical docs assume some sort of insert knowledge that I am lacking.
