Aaaaaaa, Kate is so awesome. It's super fast, it has cool plugins/integrations (Git/SQL/Color Picker are just a few I use), plenty of customization options and it's so simple to use. Been using it ever since I started using Linux daily for years since it came with KDE and it's my daily driver for writing a mod for Godot game for the past 3 months.
LSP server integration works very well, I started using macros for some boring templates, I discovered I can use mouse side buttons to go to previous location instead of switching tabs just today, tabs are just fine and I feel that there is still plenty of juice I could get out of Kate if I spent the time to learn how to wield it to be even more efficient.
Granted, there are some issues like straight up dying/becoming unresponsive when dealing with very large files or unformatted JSON files, but I can understand those shortcomings.
Kudos to the contributors, it's a fine piece of software that serves those using it. :blobfoxheart:

@Frisk to anyone who is reading this and is like "I can't leave Windows because I won't have notepad++!"
.... Kate.... That's it

@thibaultmol Absolutely, as past Notepad++ user I can confirm it's pretty much on par and has even more features.
Additionally, Kate is available on Windows so anyone can try it before leaving Windows!

@thibaultmol @Frisk There's also a clone called Notepadqq in case for some reason Kate doesn't work. I'm generally a fan of KWrite for simple stuff, and KDevelop is interesting as something closer to a full IDE.

@anonax @Frisk yeah kdevelop is also something that I had never heard about until I randomly stumped onto it. I forget to really look into it I'll be honest but it looks cool

@Frisk Agreed! It's certainly the most underrated editor available. I couldn't find anything else that could replace Sublime.

@aks Please do! And again, thank you for your work. Can't overstate just how much Kate - and greater KDE ecosystem including KTextEditor (I see you!) benefits and helps me and many others.
As a fellow developer free software tinkerer I know how easy it is to feel like our work is insignificant, that's why I love to shout from time to time about my favorite programs to show just how wrong this feeling can be.
Kate and KDE ecosystem makes a positive difference in people's lives. Even if not everyone who uses software says it, it's how it is.

@Frisk
i love the block selection mode.
and in case someone is into #markdown: try #RKWard! its more than an R tool, it uses kate as its editor and has a markdown live preview -- see your markdown left and the rendered PDF or HTML on the right screen side. it uses pandoc.

@yrlaNor That's interesting. I use plenty of Markdown for my website, may check RKWard later. Thanks!
