Two of my major life phases are bookended by joining the Marine Corps and my gender transition. now that I'm a year or so into the new one, I can safely say:
Glad I did the easier one first lol
When I started out in the Marines, I was separated from friends and family. when I started out transition, I lost some of them entirely.
In the Marines, most of your decisions are made for you for the entirety of your career. in transition, there's no one to make any of your decisions but you.
In the Marines, if it comes, you volunteered to set your life aside and face combat, and if you're lucky you stop fighting and come back to your life later. in transition, if it comes, the combat risk is part of your day to day life and if you're lucky, you get to keep risking it.
The Marine corps let me play tuba to get out of a dead end life, transitioning let me actually live.
Anyway yes, from experience I can tell you,
Every trans kid is braver than the troops
