@BenDoubleU @arth How does one add this to a client such as Pidgin?

@Ea5iyl@mastodon.radio @BenDoubleU@mastodon.llyxx.me Hmm. I'm not familiar with how Pidgin works. Can anyone help here?

@arth @BenDoubleU I used to use Pidgin about 20 years ago...

@Ea5iyl@mastodon.radio @BenDoubleU@mastodon.llyxx.me There seems to be a nice web interface (Converse) on your server here: https://xmpp.mastodon.radio/

@Ea5iyl @arth I think you can use you mastodon.radio user/pass to login with XMPP on pidgin. And to get to the room, I think it’s an “Add Chat” button. Pidgin isn’t my main client tho

@arth @BenDoubleU @Ea5iyl If you are not already using Pidgin for something else and just looking for an XMPP client, there are better options than Pidgin nowadays. I would recommend Gajim on the desktop, Conversations from F-Droid on Android or Monal on iPhones.

@uexo@mastodon.social @BenDoubleU@mastodon.llyxx.me @Ea5iyl@mastodon.radio I can second that. I use Gajim and Conversations. Both are very good.

@arth @BenDoubleU @uexo Thanks guys! I'll use Gajim, but as a complete newcomer I wonder what the configuration is to be able to reach the hamradio@rooms.llyxx.me room.

@Ea5iyl@mastodon.radio @BenDoubleU@mastodon.llyxx.me @uexo@mastodon.social Once you get logged in to Gajim, go in to the workspace and click the "+" button. Choose "Start chat" and enter hamradio@rooms.llyxx.me in the search box. Choose the room that it finds and you'll be good to go.

@Ea5iyl@mastodon.radio @BenDoubleU@mastodon.llyxx.me @uexo@mastodon.social Since most of us in the room are in America, it's pretty quiet in there right now. 😴 🛌

@arth @BenDoubleU @Ea5iyl Btw if you use the proper URL scheme you can make clickable invitations:
xmpp: + the room address + ?join
Becomes
xmpp:hamradio@rooms.llyxx.me?join

@uexo @arth @BenDoubleU Thanks guys! Apparently, to be able to start a chat I need to be logged in before, and I cannot figure out what my credentials are 🤦♂️

@Ea5iyl
They’d be you XMPP server and those creds. If you’re using your mastodon.radio xmpp account, you’d use those credentials like so:
