It was a very pretty film, and very competently made in all the technical aspects. The camera work, visuals, acting, costumes (can we bring back ulster/inverness coats with the capes please????), and design were all stunning.
But it was a bit more of a gross-out horror than I was anticipating, and certain things seemed to be there for shock value rather than because it made sense. The script seemed WAAAAAAY underbaked, because a lot of the elements of the story had no connective tissue linking it all together. In my mind, some of those elements could have said something profound about how a plague is perceived by the communities in which it spreads, but the commentary on that is minimal at best. Character motivations aren't all that genuine, and some are downright headscratchers. It's also a mystery as to how certain things even happened at all. I suppose some of it could be chalked up to evil nosferatu magic, but the rest comes down to practicality and how it seems like there should have been more info given the audience.
Anyway, it had a lot of style, but maybe I'd have to watch it again to get a better handle on the substance? Because on first viewing it didn't seem all there.
