Meta has been horrible for years so I don’t know why today’s shit is the bridge too far, but it is. I deactivated my Instagram and Facebook accounts.

Fuck Meta entirely.

The unrelenting advertising. The intrusion of AI slop. The fact that my participation was fueling a fundamentally evil machine that benefited only the worst people. And the way the experience in that world just got worse and worse and worse.

Even their response is typical AI hype train backpedaling. “The AI we bragged about to journalists was the FUTURE AI slop, not the CURRENT AI slop, which has been removed because of a bug.” (The bug was that people noticed it.)

These are the same people who told us how the metaverse was the future where everyone will have meetings with computers strapped to their faces and all the same journalists dutifully wrote it all down like it was true and never asked them about it again.

As bad as they got, Instagram and Facebook were still built for people to connect with each other. But with the addition of "AI users," that's not even true anymore. The idea of logging in to a service that immediately spawns AI bots to hawk products at you is dystopian as fuck, and that's exactly where they're headed.
