New puppy owner #tip: on hindsight, it would have been much easier to adopt at the end of the summer instead of the beginning of winter. The reason is simple: it would have been much pleasant to manage getting up multiple times at night to take the puppy out while they're “potty training” than it currently is with the cold and the rain.
Also, much easier to dry the additional laundry loads that have been running to deal with potty accidents.
Do you know other #DogsOfMastodon new owners' #tips?

@metacosm l We got our pup in winter, he didn’t want to sleep outside since it was cold and got used to sleeping inside.
Fast forward a couple years and he is now shamelessly sleeping in my dad’s bed and demanding cuddles 🤣

@NuclearSquid well, it was a given that our pup would sleep inside in our case but so far, our bed is off limits… the question is: for how long? 😅

@metacosm I have loads of tips! The period under 16 weeks is the ideal time to expose a puppy positively to new experiences without having to go back and desensitize them to things that alarm them. Also, you can start training recall and other skills right away, no waiting. Start working on “cooperative care” asap, and make it a regular practice every day if you can. That will make grooming and vet care much easier for their lifetime. #DogTraining
