Why I, an immigrant, sufficiently satisfied with my life abroad that I have chosen* to naturalise often say "never emigrate":
I don't mean that living in another country is not a worthwhile goal. I mean that the system and side-effects of immigration – no matter where you choose to go – is complicated and scary and dehumanising in ways that you can't explain to someone who hasn't been through the process.

@chrisjrn I’ve been through that process. “Never emigrate” wouldn’t be my universal advice. The price is steep, the road is long, and the end result is far from certain, on that I agree.

@chrisjrn @noname as an educated white Russian who went through USCIS I can confidently state that it's not even close in terms of dehumanizing cruelty to regular Russian bureaucracy. So this advice needs at least a few more variables to depend upon.
