Anyone know of any good indie mac apps (iOS + Mac) for managing local collections of mp3s? Want to start buying direct from artists in 2025, and something that syncs to my phone would be ideal. NB Already a Plex user, but never tried their music capabilities.

@alpower stick your mp3s into Plex and install PlexAmp for iOS usage. Other than Roon, I haven’t found anything remotely as good.
When I buy albums from bandcamp, the files are put in a Dropbox folder, which syncs to my Synology NAS (my main Plex library). Plex scans this folder for music, and the new albums appear very quickly!

@jonhicks will give that a go. I’m a Plex pass subscriber. Currently don’t have a NAS but just use a Mac connected SSD. IKWYM about docker - I don’t want to be a sysadmin.

@jonhicks have you ever tried Doppler at all? https://brushedtype.co/doppler/

@alpower I’d forgotten about that, and yes I have. If all your music lives and is played on your Mac it would be a good solution. Getting music onto Doppler for iPhone is a bit manual, and I’ve not got enough space on my Mac or iPhone for everything . By having my Plex library on a NAS, I can access a large library anywhere.
