One of my traditions of New Year's Eve was pre-writing the new year on a block of checks to decrease the error rate of putting the old year on my checks.
I stopped doing it several years ago because I may not write a check in the coming year at all.

As a 71 year old with the same bank account for over 30 years, my c heck numbers are in the many thousands, but the last neolithic accounts I wrote checks for, like my property tax, have now FINALLY moved to electronic payment.
I used to order boxes of checks every year; last year we ordered four pads.

@cassandracorvid We were going through (very) old documents this past year and my wife dug out "the cheque box" i.e. the little box designed to keep cancelled (remember them?) cheques. It was like a journey through the past; kids' Brownies cheques, charities, utilities, and - because banks closed early and on weekends - "cash" cheques at the local Safeway, before ATMs.
