Installed the #utnext preview version of #UbuntuTouch based on 24.04 from @UBports on my Pixel 3a and JingPad. There are the some glitches and niggles, as is to be expected at this stage. But the overall experience is surprisingly smooth!

Very many Kudo's to the Team!!

@arubislander I had a bq aquaris with Ubuntu touch and loved it

Very sad when I managed to smash the phone beyond repair

I need to find out how UBports is as a daily driver, - i use no gapps so i guess that helps

@davidoclubb

Apart from slow GPS, none of the downsides mentioned should affect me,and fingers crossed I wont find many others, though I also like to alter the speed of some podcasts

I will try and source a used fairphone and have a good look at UBports - also PostmarketOS

Thanks for the link

@davidoclubb

Nice wrtite-up. If you need Android app support, the results will continue to vary widely, depending on the app.

I feel, though, you could have pushed back a little harder on UT not being 'real' Linux. It not being 'pure' Linux is also a contentious position, as even the minimal Android container that is leveraged for the hardware drivers runs on a ... wait for it ... Linux kernel.

@arubislander Thanks, I confess I am totally out of my comfort zone with knowing when something is 'pure' linux or not, and anyway that's not the most important issue for me - it's freedom from the digital horrors, and suitability for children. In which case I have no axe to grind with UBPorts vs PostmarketOS....just grateful for both!

I am optimistic that 2025 is the year I daily drive some form of non-android!
