Tunera Type Foundry's 2024 annual report! This year we released three typefaces (Amakan, Tanklager and Choso) and slightly updated one (Lobular). Tunera's website was visited more than 90 thousand times and our fonts were downloaded more than 30 thousand times. Only two fonts by our foundry appeared on Fonts In Use, and not many appear in web results, which means that even if designers are massively downloading our fonts, not many are properly crediting them... 1/5

Economy: the total amount of donations for the foundry received through the year (by Ariel, co-founder) was 47.12 € (net amount). This doesn't include donations made to our published font designers (as they're paid directly to them and we don't have any information about them). Hosting for Tunera's website (and other of Ariel's websites) costs 216 €/year. Domain name for keeping Tunera costs 20€ year. 2/5

As the balance for the foundry is still quite negative, and the hosting space is clearly underused, one action that would probably take place in 2025 is the migration of the website to a more affordable hosting provider. Other than that, the foundry will continue operating as usual and new releases will be published during 2025. Another improvement would be publishing more Font in Use entries and maybe an In-Use gallery on our website to encourage designers to use and credit our fonts. 3/5

The biggest surprise of 2024 for us was Teranoptia, a font published in 2020, attracted suddenly lots of attention since people at Hacker News discovered it. BoingBoing (a veteran cyberpunk blog) made a post about it too and it appeared in many web design newsletters. During the summer, ByeByeBinary* and Læs Invertiæs in France released a very cool t-shirt reading "I put the ASS in lutte de clASSes" (featuring Lobular) and some Tunera fonts made their way into some contemporary art catalogs. 4/5

If you'd like to help our foundry, here are some simple things you can do (apart from donations): crediting our typefaces when you use them helps us to be more widely known. Also, if you like one of our fonts, you can make a short post telling what you like about it. We're equally open for interviews, in written form or on podcasts, to talk about the history and details of our fonts. And if you've read as far as this, thanks for your attention and your continued support through the year! 5/5

@tunera

Hi Ariel! I couldn't find any donation link outside of your own ko-fi; is it the one to choose? (I guess a prominent link within the footer and the about page would be welcome.) You deserve much more support!

@julienbidoret Yes, that's the one! There isn't a link (yet?) to donate to Tunera outside of my own ko-fi page (anyway, I'm the only one paying the bills). Thanks!
