The most Swiss thing I can think of is that we clean our tunnels. Apparently, we have been cleaning our tunnels for over 50 years. Supposedly, it's done for safety (clean means bright and bright is safer than dark), but the real reason is that we feel that clean tunnels are just better than dirty tunnels.

@reichenstein they look great and I think you folks are onto a good thing. I wish my city spent more effort keeping public places clean. Our BART system has beautiful hexagonal white tiles in most of the stations—or it would if they washed them more often. I can’t help but think that if we kept them clean it would increase people’s pride in the public infrastructure and willingness to fund it and care for it more.
