Looking for video cards to support Civ VII in the new year. Been out of the video card game for a while. Needs to work on Ubuntu and support Civ VII on a 3440x1440 wide screen monitor.
Thinking the AMD 6700 with 12GB of RAM looks good? It seems the larger about of memory is needed for the larger screen, but unclear if more processing is required or not.

@ted Great card, great Linux support, it should make you happy!

@ted Pretty much anything in newer gen cards are fine. The 7900 I just got is like triple the performance of my 6800. Even AMD on-die GPU would be fine

Any recentish AMD card should be fine. 8GB would be enough for the resolution (I still use an rx580 8GB on a 4K screen), but more memory will keep the card useful much longer in the future.

Ack, RX6700 or RX7700 should be enough. I have had RX6600XT 8GB for a couple of years and still happy, playing eg quite heavy Cities: Skylines II with pretty good settings (not full 4K though but very good looking).
And drivers are in good shape, have been for a long time, out of the box (earlier 22.04 + standard HWE Mesa updates). 7700 is of course newer RDNA3 instead of 6700's/6600's RDNA2 so driver situation might be slightly different.

@timojyrinki that's good to know. I hadn't been thinking about City Skylines II, but would like to play that too.
