A pod-style coffee maker would be ideal for us, but I can't in good conscience contribute to the mountains of unrecycable plastic waste they generate.
I need something like the drip coffeemakers we had in the 90s, but able to brew one cup at a time rather than a full pot all at once. Fill it with grounds, add a paper filter, and dispense until it needs to be cleaned and refilled.
I've worked in offices with something similar, but those machines cost thousands.

@Dandelion @jalefkowit my ex had one of these and I squared the convenience against the obscene waste by buying one of the re-usable cups that are available for them.
The one we had was also plastic, but at least it wasn't single-use plastic. I believe there are stainless steel varieties , too. The coffee it made was fine, a bit more sediment, but I'm sure you could add a paper filter if you fuss with it a bit.
As for me, the desire for lower-waste single-cup led me to use a french press

I didn't know they made 3rd-party reusables! That's wonderful to learn.
We used a French press for many years, but my wife is disabled now and only has one working arm. They're not as easy to use for her as they once were. :/

@SnoopJ @Dandelion I also had this situation with an ex. In fact, realizing that I cared about this subject a great deal while she cared about it not a whit was my first inkling that we were on our way to becoming exes 😆

@Dandelion I've always had good results with a moka pot, but you need a separate heat source for them. Perhaps a single-station induction stove? But now it's getting complicated ...

Electric moka pots do exist!

@midness @Dandelion That's very cool, would make a great office option ... says the person who was given 4 bags of roasted beans for christmas ...

A win for the environment, but making sure your colleagues clean the pot after its use… well… not such a win for your mental health, unfortunately

@midness @Dandelion Oh, no-one but me uses my moka pot :-) That way I can leave it full of hot wet beans and let it cool down naturally, cleaning it when it's time to use it again ...
Or just establish the protocol that it's always left 'dirty' and that's fine (except on a Friday afternoon)

@Dandelion maybe consider a pour over set up?

@Dandelion @jalefkowit if you still need suggestions, can you say a bit more about your constraints and requirements? I want to recommend a cheap pour-over setup that I use but you mentioned a disability. The thing you have described, as described, is just catastrophically expensive (as you have already noted).

I have some leads to follow up on, but the details are:
My wife likes coffee intermittently throughout the the day. She needs something that can be worked with one hand.
Since I'm often away at work or running errands, it can't require extensive cleanup after each use, like a French press, but something I can clean and refill for her once or twice a day.
Right now we use an electric water kettle and instant coffee, which is... not great.

OK, so, here's my setup; no claim that it will work for you directly, but perhaps a source of ideas.
I like to have max 3 cups of coffee throughout the day, so I have 3 paperless dishwasher safe pour-over metal mesh filters.
After making a cup, I leave the filters with the grounds on a plate to dry until the end of the day, because it's much easier to knock them into the compost when they're dried out anyway, and I clean them all at once.

@Dandelion I use a dedicated pour-over kettle (the Fellow Stagg) and the weight distribution makes a big difference for fully one-handed pours. And obviously I have a grinder (which it sounds like you already do) dialed in to produce a single-cup dose, so I just push one button.

@Dandelion (several of the exact models of these things that I bought a few years ago have been discontinued so I'm not bothering with product links, but if you have any issues I'm happy to look up analogues)
