therapist: it’s normal for painful memories to soften over time

me: but what if they don’t? what if they only hurt more as i age?

therapist: do you have any memories in particular you’re thinking of?

me: yes, it’s… sobs the end of google reader

@april I’ve never used Google Reader. What made it great? Why can’t we build it again? RSS is still everywhere and it’s great! :D

@markus the interface was effortlessly good and simple, it was quick and responsive, available everywhere. i don’t know if there’s a big market for it these days alas.

@april okay, so it’s more a nostalgia thing than a yearning to have it again? Which is totally fair of course. Sorry, I know I’m totally ruining the joke. :D I swear I’m more fun at parties.

@april @markus I don't miss the part about being run by a centralized organization (even if at the time it seemed relatively benign). But I do miss the feature set and ease. The good news is that RSS is still around and available feed readers are fine. But it doesn't feel like it has quite the ecosystem as, say, ActivityPub or even ATproto.

@april I had switched to Ye Olde Reader and then Twitter, and now I just use Mastodon. The golden age of RSS feeds is over for me, at least for now
