Friendly tip: uBlock Origin has a helpful "Disable all JavaScript on this site" button that effectively removes paywalls from most websites. It works even when tools like 12ft.io are blocked!

@hazelnoot hilariously, this is probably so that Google can scrape the article content to use on Google Search and Google News. Gotta make the content discoverable to bots, but make sure that people will pay for it 🙃

@hazelnoot good advice! For patient, skilled, and a bit paranoic people, you can combine it with noScript. It enables a finer control of JavaScript sources, since removing all JavaScript could prevent the page rendering, but paywalls, cokies, etc. often depends from a single source which can be blocked independently from the page url.
