I promised myself months ago, when we started to get warnings like https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/08/chromes-manifest-v3-and-its-changes-for-ad-blocking-are-coming-real-soon/ that Google's plans to lobotomize ad-blockers were serious, that the day an ad got through on Chrome (+ uBlock Origin) was the day I would give up on Chrome, give up on running with two browsers open, and switch to Firefox for everything. That day has arrived.

@11011110 If you haven’t already, now could also be a good time to look into alternative search engines. Of course, there are engines like DDG. I‘ve been using Kagi lately, which is a paid search engine, and I really like it. I tend to prefer products that don’t have an ad-centric business model.

@SageBinder I do at least turn off the AI overviews in Google search using the techniques described in https://www.androidauthority.com/how-to-turn-off-ai-overviews-google-3445771/ which so far appear to still work
