Really good overview of the current situation for Taiwan by DW. Especially because they concentrated on local experts and what the population thinks.

Still hard to understand the KMT strategy. Do they really think if they don't finance any defense that Xi will just go "oh, that's fine, then I don't want Taiwan anymore."?

Seems backwards.

Would be good, but…

• Narrator can't pronounce "secession"

• Japan didn't "cede Taiwan to the ROC"

• China is not "the mainland" from any perspective except Hainan's

Repeated problem (10:55):

• Narrator said "reunifying" again

@TimMaddog thanks, that's insightful.

I assumed with "reunifying" they mean how it was after 1945, before the KMT fled to Taiwan. Guessing that it was one nation as the RoC, before the PRC came into existence.
