Don't do this : I have a vague memory of engineers on my course plugging a capacitor into a kettle lead and it firing a streamer down the corridor. And I think if a narrow boat ever exploded it would look similar.

@drlucyrogers@mastodon.social When I was at school, my electronics teacher demonstrated this (with a safety screen, and a few different size caps so we could see which made the biggest bang). The lesson was "this is why you don't have your face near the board when you power up your circuit for the first time".
